From Your Mum
I know school hasn’t been easy for you.
Sometimes the tests don’t go well.
Sometimes you wonder, “What’s the point of this?”
That’s normal.
Actually, I think it means you’re thinking.
I don’t believe school is everything.
It’s just one system.
One way of doing things.
So if you don’t fit perfectly into it,
that doesn’t mean something is wrong with you.
But there’s one thing I want you to understand.
School is a game.
The rules are simple.
Get decent marks.
Submit your work.
Don’t lose points for behaviour.
If you play the game, you get more options.
If you don’t, your options become limited.
That’s just how it works.
But this game is not your whole life.
It’s just one part of it.
So whether you play it well or not,
I don’t measure you by that.
What matters to me is something else.
Three things.
Think for yourself.
Take action.
Be able to support yourself.
If you have these,
you’ll be okay anywhere.
I already see that in you.
You don’t just follow things blindly.
You want to understand first.
That’s not a weakness.
That’s strength.
But remember this.
Thinking is not enough.
You have to move.
It doesn’t have to be perfect.
It doesn’t have to be big.
Just take one step.
I’m not trying to make you perfect.
I just want you to be able to live your life,
as yourself.
You don’t need to fit into someone else’s mould.
But don’t run away either.
Make your own decisions.
I’ll support you no matter what path you choose.
But one thing will never change.
Your life is yours to build.
And everything I’m doing,
everything I’m thinking,
is to help you be ready for that.
